Vijay the friend of Fishermen
A meeting will be organised by the Vijay People movement at Nagapattinam on February 22. The meeting is to be conducted by S.A Chandrasekaran, noted Film Director and father of Actor Vijay to condemn the killing of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lanka Navy. Vijay will be taking part in this event and will address the gathering after handing over financial help to the fishermen recently killed by Sri Lanka Navy.
This event will launch actor Vijay directly into the Tamil Nadu politics by portraying him as ” The friend of Fishermen” . He is passionately called by his fans as Ilaya Thalapathi , the Junior Commander. Now the commander is going to fight for Fishermen not in the silverscreen but on the shores of Bay of Bengal.
The following are the circumstances which gradually brought this young actor to the Tamil Nadu political scene crowded by many more film personalities.
Scene1: Vijay undertakes fast during the protest by film industry in support of suffering Tamils in Sri Lanka about two years back.
Scene2: Vijay meets Rahul Gandhi. But Vijay prefer not to join in Congress party which is identified as number 1 enemy to be defeated by Ealem supporters such as Seeman.
Scene3: Release of Vijay film Kavalan postponed many times allegedly to facilitate screening of films produced by DMK family.
Scene4: Vijay’s father S.A Chandrasekaran meets Jayalalithaa twice.
Scene5: Vijay directly criticizes DMK in an interview to Tamil weekly.
From these 5 scenes it is can be well understood that Vijay has almost decided to support AIADMK.
The sixth scene to be taken up by Vijay is expected to show the strength of his fan club at Nagapattinam, a sea side town, by next week.
Vijay has taken up the hot issue of fishermen which will be an important plank in the assembly elections to be held in May this year.
While the fishermen issue is going to help Actor Vijay as a launch pad in politics it should be thought of whether Vijay could in any way help in resolving the issue of Fishermen. Whether he is going to be another personality showing the concerns by writing letters, staging protests, undertaking fasts, delivering loud speeches etc or going to do some constructive works is to be seen. Vijay can go around Tamil Nadu for this issue to educate the inland people too to join hands with the fishermen community living along the shore.
If Vijay join hands with the civil society and other non political interest groups and make sensible moves in a way different from the political leaders, he will be most welcome by all to become a spokesperson of Fishermen community. That depends on what measures Vijay will suggest to resolve the fishermen issue during the meeting to be held at Nagapattinam.
